Did you know that for the last 10 years all new computers have shipped with Armenian language support, allowing you to read and write in Armenian without the need to download any fonts?
You don't need to configure anything to read in Armenian. On the other hand, to write in Armenian, all you need to do is follow a few steps to configure your computer.
Once you write your Armenian text and send it to a friend, you no longer need to worry about them needing to download any fonts! They will be able to read your text written in the Armenian script right away.
The technology that enables this is called Unicode, a computing industry standard for the consistent representation of text expressed in most of the world's writing systems, including Armenian.
In the next few sections, we describe how to configure your Mac OS X, Windows 7, or Windows XP/2000 operating system with an Armenian keyboard layout. This allows you to write in Armenian in the Unicode standard, ensuring that all of your friends, family, and colleagues are able to read your Armenian writings, no matter which operating system they use.
