Prerequisites

Mozilla Firefox (or simply Firefox) is a free and open-source web browser.

If you already have Firefox, make sure it’s the latest version by following these instructions:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version

Otherwise, download and install Firefox from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox.

Installation

  1. Open Firefox (if you are not already reading this from within Firefox).

  2. From within Firefox, open the appropriate HySpell installation file from below:

For classical orthography, open the following link:

    https://s3.amazonaws.com/nayiri/hyspellarmenianspellingmozillasuite_2.5.7.xpi

For reformed orthography, open the following link:

    https://s3.amazonaws.com/nayiri/hyspellarmenianspellingmozillasuitero_2.5.4.xpi

    Which one do I choose?

Classical Armenian orthography (also known as traditional or Mesrobian orthography) is the spelling system used in the Armenian diaspora, including Lebanon, Syria, and Iran.

Reformed Armenian orthography (also known as Soviet Armenian orthography) is the result of spelling reforms in the 1920s in Soviet Armenia; it is the predominant spelling system used today in the Republic of Armenia and the former Soviet Union.

Note: If you’re not reading this from within Firefox, copy-paste the appropriate link from above into Firefox's Location Bar and press Enter or click the Go button.

  3. Wait for the download to complete. The file is about 900 KB and should take only a few seconds on a high-speed Internet connection.

  4. Once the add-on has been downloaded and verified, click the Add button.

  5. Click OK after installation completes.
